What do we feel when we walk in different spaces? Do we associate certain feelings with past events or experiences in our lives, or do we want to invent new narratives for ourselves as part of our relationships with the landscapes we are in? In these spaces we can be walker and listener; writer, artist or performer; audience and spectator.
Zona is an experimental film using a mix of digital video, analogue Super 8 film and still images. It explores sensations of walking in mostly rural landscapes with an emphasis on the South Downs National Park and the South Downs Way long distance footpath. Zona is the Latin form of ‘zone’ and each section of the film encounters a particular zone in a landscape with an accompanying soundscape.
Selected extracts taken from three oral history interviews about walking are also included.
